An eco-responsible campsite on the shores of Lac de Serre-Ponçon, in the heart of the Hautes-Alpes region
A campsite at the heart of biodiversity: our environmental commitments
In the heart of the Hautes-Alpes and with direct access to Serre-Ponçon Lake, Camping Sunêlia La Presqu'île has one of the clearest skies in Europe.
As a natural destination par excellence at the gateway to the Ecrins National Park, we have naturally chosen to adopt a CSR approach.
We are voluntarily contributing to the challenges of sustainable development, both in our activities and in our interactions with our stakeholders, to ensure that our tourism activity is managed in a way that is more responsible and respects and protects the environment.
Our efforts have paid off, as we are one of the few campsites to be awarded the Green Key / Clef Verte label. This distinction is above all a tribute to nature.
Discover the actions we have taken to meet over forty criteria.
Controlling energy consumption such as water and electricity, better management and recycling of organic waste, awareness-raising among staff and our customers, installation of electric recharging points, installation of an environmentally-friendly reed bed purification plant, etc.
Choosing a campsite with the Green Key / Clef Verte label on the shores of Serre-Ponçon Lake means choosing an authentic, responsible holiday, where every moment is an invitation to reconnect with nature while minimising your ecological impact.
Our environmental initiatives

What is the Green Key Label

Obtained in January 2024, the Clef Verte / Green Key ecolabel is the first international sustainable tourism label for tourist accommodation and restaurants.
This distinction certifies that the environmental approach of the tourist accommodation or restaurant meets over a hundred criteria. These relate to sustainable tourism management, in terms of energy management, ecological approaches implemented and awareness-raising among staff and customers.
Audits are carried out on a regular basis to ensure that the establishment's commitments are being met, and evidence is collected.
The Clé Verte label is a sure-fire way to enjoy nature-friendly holidays, and rewards establishments that meet strict eco-management criteria:
- Waste reduction and selective sorting 🌱
- Responsible water and energy management 💧
- Use of sustainable and natural materials 🏕
- Promotion of local and organic products 🥕
A greener wastewater treatment plant

Technology serving an ecological cause
The new reed filter wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) was built in 2024 and required major investment.
The old treatment plant, which used active sludge management, was becoming increasingly problematic. It was ageing and generating a lot of noise and odour pollution for the campsite's customers. What's more, its carbon footprint was becoming increasingly significant, with 52 lorry operations to extract and clean the sludge.
Faced with this situation, we had to react quickly for the comfort and well-being of our customers. Following an in-depth study of the soil and the involvement of a number of professionals, we opted to build a wastewater treatment plant using planted reed filters. A solution that's more ecological and more respectful of the environment.

Controlling development around the lake
A natural destination par excellence, Camping Sunêlia La Presqu'île is subject to very strict regulations for the development of its site and facilities.
In fact, nestling in the heart of the Hautes-Alpes and with the aim of protecting its environmental setting, we are subject to..:
- The Mountain Law
- Coastal Law
- The Landscape Law
The SMADESEP (Syndicat Mixte d'Aménagement du Lac de Serre-Ponçon) ensures that the rules and regulations are applied to avoid any excesses.
It is a key player in the preservation and development of Lac de Serre-Ponçon, supporting and guiding tourism professionals and service providers in their projects.

A few good practices for nature-friendly holidays
Because even on holiday, simple gestures of good practice help to make us more responsible.
Here are a few tips for a greener holiday:
- Separate rubbish: I separate my rubbish in the appropriate bins opposite reception. I put my used batteries and light bulbs in the bins provided at reception.
- Composting: I put my biowaste in the compost bins opposite reception. Bins are available from reception on request.
- Air conditioning and heating: I remember to close all the doors and windows when I turn on the air conditioning. The mobile home is equipped with an opening detection system that switches the air conditioning off automatically. For better energy management, I regulate the air conditioning at 24°c, the heating at 19°c and I remember to turn off the air conditioning when I'm away.
- Water: I limit the amount of hot water I use when washing up and I spend a reasonable amount of time in the shower. I report any water leaks to reception.
- Electricity: I remember to turn off the lights when I leave a room. I switch off the coffee machine and other appliances on standby, as well as indoor and outdoor lights.
- Use the salad bowls and dishes in the mobile home to collect your orders from the snack bar, to reduce the use of disposable products;
- Use reusable bags for shopping, bread and pastries.
